Lizzie Engel is used to running away. At eighteen, she left her Mennonite hometown, Kingdom, Kansas, with plans never to return.
But five years later, the new life she built is falling apart. Lizzie knows she's being followed, and she's certain the same mysterious stranger is behind the threatening letters she's received. Realizing she'll have to run again, the only escape Lizzie can manage is a return to the last place she wants to go.
Once she arrives in Kingdom, Lizzie is confident she'll be safe until she comes up with a new plan. In reacquainting herself with the town and its people--especially her old friend, Noah Housler--she wonders if she judged her hometown and her Mennonite faith too harshly. However, just as she begins to come to terms with her roots, Lizzie is horrified to discover the danger she ran from is closer than ever.
No longer sure who to trust and fearful for her life and the lives of those around her, Lizzie finds she has only one place left to run--to the Father whose love is inescapable.
My Review:
The fear etched on young Elizabeth Lynn's face (on the cover) did not prepare my for the thriller read I would encounter as I opened this book. The first page immediately drew me in and the entire novel seized my attention until the very last words. As I continued to flip pages, I felt something akin to terror for young Lizzie and the fears that grip her heart. I admit that more than once, my heart began to beat faster when danger lurked close by, which was often.
The plot was unpredictable, which is a refreshing change from several other books I've read recently. I often found myself perplexed when trying to fit the fragmented pieces of Lizzie's life together and solve the mystery of her stalker, true love and renewed faith. Once you've read this book, you will not, can not forget the ending! Betrayal and truth both take center stage but which will prevail?
I took delight in the journey into Lizzie's heart as she rediscovers the love her Heavenly father has for her as well as trying to forgive her earthly father for his many shortcomings. Lizzie's character is comparable to many people out there today. They leave their problems, hoping that the pain of the past will dissolve soon, but realize that only Jesus can fill the void in their hearts. Her humanity and genuine need for God is shown in her prayers and in her surrender. She even says at one point, "If you save me from this, I will serve you" (not in those exact words)
I can fault this book with only one thing: I didn't like that it was written in first-person. As I read, I felt more like Lizzie was telling me the story herself because there weren't many descriptions other than the few that illustrated her apartment and the common mention of a person's eye color! I overlooked this very minor fault because the plot out shined the negative.
If your looking for an appreciable read that is beyond your normal circle of books, then you should give
Inescapable a try. Trust me, you will not be disappointed by he suspense and thrill that will immediately envelope you. I rate
Inescapable 5 stars! This is a spectacular read and I wouldn't want you to miss out on the many twists and turns you will come across. You can buy this book at
Amazon. I really hope you do:)
