August Photo A Day Challenge

Ali and I are hosting a photo challenge. For the month of August, we will present you with a different object, technique, or trait that you must capture. The catch? Each photo must be artistic and creative. If the object is a shoe, you won't take an ordinary photo of it. Your photos must show creativity and technique.

We'd love it if you would join us. The challenge begins August 1st and you can post your photos on your blog (or Instagram account @ #apadchallenge) every Friday, so you won't have to post everyday.  Leave us a comment so we know where to look out for your photos:)

Will you consider joining us?

Here is the list of challenges and a button that you can add to your blog to spread the word.

Happy Snapping!

Litfuse Blog Tour: The Company

About the Book:
A meteor strike plunges the world into darkness. A stranger to the village of Brigos Glen restores power and light, supplied by three businesses, known as “The Company,” located beyond the forbidden mountains. The stranger reveals a plan so the Brigons can maintain the power and share the light with outlying territories, which remain shrouded in darkness.

Now, seventy years later, The Company summons six Brigons, including the young engineer Sam Mitchell, to attend a conference in the mountains of the forbidden Outlands.

Responsible for compiling a report about Brigos Glen from his five companions, Sam learns how managers and villagers largely ignored the plan or compromised it to self-interest, forsaking their duty to share the light. They also took for granted The Company responsible for generating and transmitting the power.

In an ordeal fraught with failure, revelations, and judgment, Sam discovers the true identity behind The Company and learns the fate that may befall Brigos Glen . . . that is, unless he can stop it.

My Review:
Once again, I've selected a book that caused me to branch out of my usual circle of reading and I experimented with a classic/allegory.

The Company is not written as an "end of the times" book nor does it explain end time prophecies as one might assume, but it does attempt to explain one God but a Father, one God but a Son and one God but a Spirit.

When I began reading this book, I had trouble getting into it. The first 20 pages were written more as a newspaper article, recording the events after that great meteor exploded into the planet. The dialogue beginning on page 21 helped move things along and got me interested. The book started of slow but towards the middle, the pace picked up and it began to intrigue me! Chuck Graham did a wonderful job writing this book. His writing is intelligent and proficient for sure.

If you are into the sci-fi genre, then you will enjoy read this book. I'd rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I received this book from Litfuse Publicity in exchange for my honest review.

Counting My Blessings

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Psalm 139:14

July has been a rather busy month so far. The first week we celebrated my blogaversary and on July 5 was my fifteenth birthday. The following days have been filled with days at the park, visits to the library, church, books, cleaning and so on! I haven't had the opportunity] to count my blessings in a few weeks, so I will make up for it today!

On July Fourth we had a church BBQ. The food was great and the time we all spent fellowshipping was a blessing.

As a little surprise, my parents celebrated my 15 birthday (a day ahead) with a cake. I am so thankful to God that He has allowed me to grow up in His ways. I hope that this new year  will allow me to deepen my relationship with my Heavenly Father and grow to be more like Jesus. The picture above is of gift I received from a very special friend. Do you notice any resemblance of the canvas and my blog?

The next day was my birthday! Every year, my sweet mother tells me the story of my birth and the days that followed. I don't think that I could ever get tired of that tale:)

After a bit of birthday fun, my mother took me out for a little photo shoot. I have to say, I thought that I would be a natural in front of the  camera, but I know that my place is behind the eye cup:)

Those are just a few of my favorites. My mom says that we will def. have another shoot...soon.
Birthday photos courtesy of MOM

My parents took me out to eat at Red Lobster! They have the BEST cheddar bay biscuits!

A few days ago, my mom took me and little sister to the zoo. If you've ever been to the zoo, you know that the trip will last several hours and that your feet ache when you get home! I did enjoy seeing the animals that God thoughtfully created. I think that my favorite exhibit is "Tiger Mountain" The tigers seem pretty calm and if you catch them on a really good day, one will walk right up the glass. I didn't take many photos of the animals (the plexi-glass doesn't photograph well) but relished the beautiful architecture and foliage.
These fish are in in the tiger exhibit.

Little sister insisted that I take a picture of this bald eagle.

I spent much of my time wandering about, finding pretty things to photograph.
When I look around, I see God's hand all around us.

My tomato plant (at church) bore two ripe tomatoes!

How has this month been for you? How have you been coping with the heat? How have you seen God's goodness in your life?

Litfuse Blog Tour: Inescapable

About the Book:
Lizzie Engel is used to running away. At eighteen, she left her Mennonite hometown, Kingdom, Kansas, with plans never to return.

But five years later, the new life she built is falling apart. Lizzie knows she's being followed, and she's certain the same mysterious stranger is behind the threatening letters she's received. Realizing she'll have to run again, the only escape Lizzie can manage is a return to the last place she wants to go.

Once she arrives in Kingdom, Lizzie is confident she'll be safe until she comes up with a new plan. In reacquainting herself with the town and its people--especially her old friend, Noah Housler--she wonders if she judged her hometown and her Mennonite faith too harshly. However, just as she begins to come to terms with her roots, Lizzie is horrified to discover the danger she ran from is closer than ever.

No longer sure who to trust and fearful for her life and the lives of those around her, Lizzie finds she has only one place left to run--to the Father whose love is inescapable.

My Review:
The fear etched on young Elizabeth Lynn's face (on the cover) did not prepare my for the thriller read I would encounter as I opened this book. The first page immediately drew me in and the entire novel seized my attention until the very last words. As I continued to flip pages, I felt something akin to terror for young Lizzie and the fears that grip her heart. I admit that more than once, my heart began to  beat faster when danger lurked close by, which was often.

The plot was unpredictable, which is a refreshing change from several other books I've read recently. I often found myself perplexed when trying to fit the fragmented pieces of Lizzie's life together and solve the mystery of her stalker, true love and renewed faith. Once you've read this book, you will not, can not forget the ending! Betrayal and truth both take center stage but which will prevail?

I took delight in the journey into Lizzie's heart as she rediscovers the love her Heavenly father has for her as well as trying to forgive her earthly father for his many shortcomings. Lizzie's character is comparable to many people out there today. They leave their problems, hoping that the pain of the past will dissolve soon, but realize that only Jesus can fill the void in their hearts. Her humanity and genuine need for God is shown in her prayers and in her surrender. She even says at one point, "If you save me from this, I will serve you" (not in those exact words)

I can fault this book with only one thing: I didn't like that it was written in first-person. As I read, I felt more like Lizzie was telling me the story herself because there weren't many descriptions other than the few that illustrated her apartment and the common mention of a person's eye color! I overlooked this very minor fault because the plot out shined the negative.

If your looking for an appreciable read that is beyond your normal circle of books, then you should give Inescapable a try. Trust me, you will not be disappointed by he suspense and thrill that will immediately envelope you. I rate Inescapable 5 stars! This is a spectacular read and I wouldn't want you to miss out on the many twists and turns you will come across. You can buy this book at Amazon. I really hope you do:)
