Silence! Be Still!

via
As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”  So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).  But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water.

Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”

When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other.
“Even the wind and waves obey him!”
Mark 4:35-41

Life is quite unpredictable. During our time on earth we are bound to travel life's sea of trials and tribulations, even heartache and pain. When we face life's storms, we need only to call (or shout like the disciples did) on Jesus.

The disciples asked, "Don't you care that we're going to drown?" At times, we may feel the same way. We may feel as though we are drowning in our problems while God is standing on the sidelines watching us. We are tempted to question God's motives and blame Him for the troubles we are facing.

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.
Psalm 46:1

We can rest assured that God is watching us, but not from the sidelines. He is right there next to us, ready to guide us.

When we call out, "God, HELP ME!", He comes to our rescue. We read that Jesus said, "Silence! Be still!" That is exactly what He says to us today. He tells us to be silent, be still and wait in Him because He is sure to help us. He can calm the crashing waves of defeat and bring us safely to His shores of peace.

You do not know what will happen the day of tomorrow, but God does. For that very reason, you must,

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in Him. He will calm the storms and bring peace to your life. All you need to do now is be still.
